Landslide in Bukit Antarabangsa
Syukur Alhamdulillah, me and my family are save from that infidel tragedy of landslide in Bukit Antarabangsa which happened on 6 December 2008, Saturday morning. Where, most people were asleep when the landslide occurred and within seconds, 14 bungalows were perished.
I was just finish watching re-run of Big Love on HBO that night, which ended at 3.30 p.m and was about to go to bed when i heard sounds like raining and wind blowing breezily. i assume it was going to rain. so i switched off
the TV and lights and walked straight to bed without looking out the window.
the TV and lights and walked straight to bed without looking out the window.
at almost 6. 00 a.m, i woke up instantly as well as my husband due to the sound of police sirens and voice from the haler but i could hardly hear the words. we were both still in bed while trying to figure out what was happening; the idea of police attempt to arrest someone or there must be a landslides. hannani already awake since it was her feeding time. i asked my husband to prepare milk for hannani. he walked to the kitchen and switched on the lights. nothing. there was no electricity. we end up boiling water on stove. then, i looked out the window seeing that all 3 blocks were in the dark. no lights at all except for the street lights in the park. no wonder it was so quiet around here. unknowing what had happened, we continue our routine.
we were discussing things to bring to KB since Monday is the Hari Raya Qurban /Aidiladha, when we heard helicopter flying right above us. then around 7.30 a.m, i received an SMS from a friend saying that there was a landslide in Bukit Antarabangsa. I called her instantly to confirm it. according to her, 2 bodies were found, 14 bungalows were perished at Bukit Mewah. (damn, those row of bungalows, nice beautiful huge bungalows, gone just like that). together with exclusice motorcards... and the bad news was that the main road was not accesible due to the landslide. then i quickly call my dad and asked him to watch the news. and get back at me later with news. my husband was with the neighbours and theyre planning to go to the crash site. we decided to go up to 13th floor to see the landslide. from up there, we could see that the landslide was the worst ever. and we saw dozens of cars going up were stuck... and this time around many people were walking down to the site and others dragging their luggage with intention to go back to hometown to celebrate hari raya qurban. we walked back to the house and start packing.
Around 12 noon, according to the neighbour, the 1st alternative road which were made open for people to easily walk through, were now closed due to the water rising up to knee length. the police/army decided to close the 1st alternative road. the 2nd alternative route is further up from our residence. we had to cross the drain, through the bushes, through the muddy pathway, going up the hill, with only one small slap of stairs to step on, and a few of tree branches to cling on. i was carrying hannani with the baby carrier while my husband had to carry two backpack and 1 luggage ( ye la, nk balik kampung). it was really adventurers with rain pouring. poor hannani, she must be scared OR might be clueless of what was happening around her. finally we reached the top, near the anthenium tower condo. while waiting for my parents to arrive, a truck providing aid such as food, diapers and baby food to the ones stranded uphill. my husband lend a hand to the volunteers, unloading the boxes of food and others. about 2.00 p.m my parents arrive and we went back to my parents' house at ulu kelang.
Al-Fatihah and condolences to the relatives of victims of the landslide.
