Surrounded by flood
On Tuesday, 3 March 2009, few areas in KL was flash flooded due to the storm. the downpour started at around 3 p.m and floods only began at 5 p.m. amongst the effected area is Jalan Ipoh. i was at the time in the office, and completely forgot that with that kind of storm out there, the area will be flooded with the water from the river.
the time clocks at 5.30 p.m, when i realize my colleague mentioned that the water has covered 1/4 of the car in the parking lot where she parked. i ask her to quickly remove her car but she can't since her husband has the key and he's on his way. she grabbed her bag and went down waited for her husband. at the time, i realized, The traffic along Jalan Tun Razak flyover had slowed down due to motorists stopped to look and some of them went down to help push the cars that was stuck in the middle of the flood to the highest part of the road. the police had closed the road from part of jalan tun razak to the jalan ipoh junction. the motorists from sentul had to U-turned in front of Dynasty hotel because of the flood. i saw one red proton wira in jalan ipoh in front of PERKIM, was abandoned and clinging on the divider. it was funny though but i think the driver purposely do that to avoid the car being submerged in the flood. the pedestrians from and to LRT/Monorail had to wade through the muddy water. they had to, eventhough the water is actually dirty and you never know whats in the water. this flash flood had occured before. this is the third time since i work in Jalan Ipoh. the previous flash flood that happened, they found a snake.
most of my colleagues were stuck at Ground floor, since the Lower Ground (the car park area) was flooded. from view up above, i saw the flooded area which was, Jalan Ipoh from Dynasty Hotel to Pusrawi Klinik/Damai Service Hospital, part of Jalan Tun Razak to the Fire House Department to PWTC/Bangunan Umno. and quickly called my hubby asking where he was. and told him the situation. and one thing that struck me.... i had to walk down the stairs. with this flood, the lift will be out of order.
my hubby and thousands of other motorists stuck in traffic for more than two hours. by 7.30 p.m the water has reside. and the road was open to traffic. and i walked down the stairs and waited for my hubby near Jalan Sentul. the next day, i heard more than 30 cars in the parking lot opposite of my office was submerged, while more than 20 cars in the office's parking lot can only be drove out of the car park around midnight. they had to wait for the engine and other part of the car to dry out. and some of them had to leaved their car overnight. the water in the car park were pumped out.oh yeah, we had to walked up the stairs that morning. and luckily by afternoon, 2 out of 4 lifts are back to operation.
